Uluwatu Temple

Pura Luhur Uluwatu is a Balinese Hindu temple located in the South of Bali. The temple is one of nine key direction temples that are believed to protect Bali from the south side direction. this unique temple lies on Uluwatu Cliff of 70 meters Hight above sea level.

This temple was expanded by Empu Kuturan in the 11th Century. Uluwatu Come from the Words "Ulu" which means Land's end and "Watu" which means Rock. The name itself can describe what the temple is all about. this temple was also chosen by Holy priest Dhang Hyang Dwijendra as their last spiritual Journey and he attended Moksha in this temple.

What to see

Besides as a ceremony and historical place the temple is also commonly visited by tourists all around the world to see the beauty of the temple scenery and enjoy the best sunset moment. Tourists can enter the temple with an entrance fee IDR. 30,000 for Domestic tourists and IDR. 50,000 for foreigners. before you enter the temple or holy place in Bali you should wear Sarong, scarf or sash tied around the waist. one more important thing is when women on a period are prohibited to enter the temple. so make sure you're prepared for the right time to visit the temple.

Kecak Dance

One of the attractions that you must attend in Uluwatu temple is the Kecak Dance performance which is scheduled every evening starting from 6 PM every day. This attraction is used to entertain tourists and is not spiritually significant to the temple.

Kecak Dance's performance is taken from Ramayana's epic story. the synopsis goes that Sri Rama the Prince of the Ayodya Kingdom sent to exile by his father King Dasaratha following an evil of his stepmother Keikeyi.

Sri Rama was accompanied by his wife Sita and younger brother Laksamana to exile deep in a monkey forest. The evil Rahwana who loves Sita knew the news and set out to kidnap Sita. the rest of the story is about how Rama rescues Sita helped by Laksamana and King Hanoman followed by monkey troops.

the entrance fee for Kecak Dance is IDR. 150,000 per person. we advise purchasing in advance in order to limited space or seating and better to come early to get the best seats so you then can watch Kecak Dence with a sunset background.
